What better way to spend your Saturday than to eat some pizza, mingle with like-minded people, win some prizes, and test your SOLIDWORKS skills! And this group did just that! Even with a typhoon, this group’s passion did not stop them from meeting up and learning more about SOLIDWORKS. SOLIDWORKS User Group of the North Philippines (SWUG-NP) together with Computrends held the meet-up last July 29, 2017 at Shakey’s, Makati Cinema Square. The meet-up was the first for the year but there would be another one later this year so tune-in for the announcement.
So what is SOLIDWORKS User Group of the North Philippines or SWUG-NP?
SWUG-NP is the official SW User group for Luzon recognized by the SOLIDWORKS User’s Group Network in USA. The group aims to provide more information about SW and SW related products, network with other engineers, and to share with each other experiences and valuable real-world techniques to better help its members and their companies.
To kick things off, each one of the attendees introduced themselves to the community so everyone could know their name and their background on SOLIDWORKS. There were some that are just more than half a year of using SW and some have almost 10 years SW experience but everyone shares the same passion which is to make great designs.
Mr. Stephen Alcaraz of Computrends, Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert (CSWE), then shared the different kinds of certifications exams that are available for commercial clients in SOLIDWORKS. The Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate which is for the students in colleges, Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional which is the main certification for professionals, and the CSWE which is the most difficult and needs to have a total of 6 exams including the CSWP and CSWE.
The main highlight of the meet-up was the SOLIDWORKS Model Mania. The Group was divided into teams of 5 members (randomly) and were given the same 2D drawing in which they need to model it in SOLIDWORKS in 30 minutes. It was a collective effort of the group to share their own ways of using features in SW to beat the time limit and submit the final mass of the model. The groups were fairly competitive and everyone was doing well in their models, but eventually only one group will win……
Congratulations to group 1 for having the fastest time to complete the drawing and giving the correct mass for the model! It was definitely a collective effort from the group to know the right features to make this model at the fastest time and correctly!
Of course the event won’t be complete without some prizes and raffle, Congratulations to our lucky winners of T shirts, mousepad, headphones, and USB drives!
